Astra is a student-led nonprofit working to make astronomy accessible to every student, not just the ones who already have access to it.
Most of us never had an astronomy class growing up.
Not because we weren't curious — the classes, mentors, and dark skies just weren't there. Astra is our attempt to fix that for other students: free workshops, tools that make the night sky make sense, and work to protect the skies worth looking at in the first place.
Everything Astra runs falls under one of three initiatives.
Free astronomy workshops built around curiosity instead of lectures. Sessions like "Could We Live on Mars?" or "The Hidden Universe" meet students exactly where they are, no prior science background required.
Our interactive community for students who want to go further than a single workshop. Upload a photo of the night sky and get real answers back: that bright dot is Jupiter, that star is Vega, one of the brightest stars visible from Earth.
Students can track celestial events, take on sky challenges, and explore their own corner of the universe.
Our effort to protect the night sky itself. Light pollution, satellite congestion, and orbital debris are quietly making the stars harder to see and study, and most people have no idea it's happening.
